"Joe Jonas has inspired and touched millions of young people through his music, but he’s not stopping there! On the eve of his summer concert tour with the Jonas Brothers, Joe took time out to travel and volunteer his time with Free The Children.

This past month, Joe Jonas, part of the Grammy® nominated, multi-platinum trio the Jonas Brothers, spent eight days on a Me to We volunteer trip to Kenya. Deep in the rural Maasai Mara, Joe was able to explore the history and culture of Kenyan communities, and experience firsthand the challenges that community members are presented with. As part of his volunteer trip, he spent much of his time working alongside the community members to help build schools and school rooms for the local children with Me to We’s charity partner Free The Children.

Joe also soaked in the scenery and culture with once-in-a-lifetime activities like beading with Maasai Mamas, travelling on a sunset safari and learning how to speak Swahili. Local community members were excited to share their culture with him, and he was eager to experience Kenyan customs.

This trip had such a positive impact on both Joe, and the communities he visited – he definitely has some new fans in Kenya! After he returned home, Joe told us, “I’ve never been to Kenya before. Experiencing it for the first time with Me to We and Free The Children provided me with a new perspective. I was able to see first-hand the value and role education plays in the lives of children. In fact, my brothers and I will have a special message to share with our fans while we are on tour this year.”

We are so grateful for Joe’s participation in this trip, and his involvement doesn’t end here. “My brothers and I have been supporting Free The Children for a number of years now. In fact, this fall we will be performing at one of its youth empowerment events, We Day Minnesota, in front of 18,000 students from across the state,” said Joe Jonas.

Joe Jonas ha inspirado y tocó a millones de jóvenes a través de su música, pero no se detiene ahí! En vísperas de su gira de conciertos de verano con los Jonas Brothers, Joe tomó el tiempo para viajar y ser voluntario.

El mes pasado, Joe Jonas, parte del Grammy nominado, trío multi-platino Jonas Brothers, pasó ocho días en un voluntario viaje a Kenia. Profundo en el rural El Maasai Mara, Joe fue capaz de explorar la historia y cultura de las comunidades kenianas y experimentar de primera mano los retos que presentaban los miembros de la comunidad. Como parte de su viaje de voluntariado, pasó gran parte de su tiempo trabajando junto a los miembros de la comunidad para ayudar a construir escuelas y aulas para los niños.

Joe también empapado en el paisaje y la cultura, realizó actividades como abalorios con Mamas Maasai, viajando en un safari al atardecer y aprender a hablar Swahili. Miembros de la comunidad local estaban emocionados de compartir su cultura con él, y él estaba ansioso por experimentar costumbres propias de ese país.

Este viajo tuvo un impacto tan positivo tanto en Joe como en las comunidades que visitó. Definitivamente tiene algunos nuevos fans en Kenia! Cuando regresó a casa Joe comentó: "Nunca he estado en Kenia antes. He experimentado por primera ver Free The Children y me proporcionó una nueva perspectiva. He podido ver de primera mano que el valor y la educación juegan un papel en la vida de los niños. De hecho, mis hermanos y yo tendremos un mensaje especial para compartir con nuestros fans mientras estamos de gira este año". 

Estamos muy agradecidos por la participación de Joe en este viaje, y su participación no termina aquí. "Mis hermanos y yo hemos estado apoyando a Free the Children durante un número de años. Este otoño se presentará en uno de sus eventos sobre la juventud, delante de 18.000 estudiantes de todo el estado" dijo Joe.
